Shorter Days Ahead: Golf Cart Lighting Upgrades Before Daylight Saving Ends

, by Converted Carts, 5 min reading time

Daylight saving time ends Sunday, November 1. Here's how to check your golf cart's lights and which LED light kits fit your Club Car, E-Z-GO or Yamaha.

Daylight saving time ends on Sunday, November 1, and the sun starts setting about an hour earlier almost overnight. If you drive your golf cart around the neighborhood, to the clubhouse, or home from a friend's place after dinner, you're about to be riding in the dark a lot more than you were last week.

That makes right now the best time to take a hard look at your cart's lights. This guide walks through what to check first, what to upgrade, and which light kits fit which carts.

Step 1: Check What You Already Have

Before you buy anything, take your cart out at dusk (or park it facing a wall in the garage) and walk through this quick checklist:

  • Headlights: Are both working, and are they bright enough to see the edge of the road or path well ahead of you?
  • Tail lights and brake lights: Have a friend press the brake pedal while you stand behind the cart.
  • Turn signals: If your cart has them, do they flash at the right speed on both sides?
  • Reflectors and lenses: Cracked, yellowed or foggy lenses scatter light and make everything dimmer than it should be.
  • Wiring and connectors: Look for corroded plugs, loose grounds and brittle wires. A flickering light is usually a connection problem, not a bad bulb.

If one bulb is out or a lens is cracked, a replacement part may be all you need. If the whole system is dim, dated or incomplete, a full light kit is usually the better move.

Why LED Is the Upgrade Most Owners Choose

  • Brighter, whiter light. LEDs throw a much cleaner beam than the old halogen-style bulbs on many carts.
  • Lower power draw. LEDs use less electricity than traditional bulbs, which matters on a battery-powered cart.
  • Longer life. There are no filaments to burn out, so you're not replacing bulbs every season.
  • Better visibility to others. Brighter brake lights and tail lights make your cart easier to spot from behind, especially at dusk.

Light Kits by Cart Model

Here are the kits we carry, organized by the cart you drive. Always match the model and year range before ordering.

Club Car Precedent

Club Car Tempo

Alpha Body Kits

E-Z-GO RXV

E-Z-GO TXT / T48

Yamaha Drive, Drive2 and G29

Yamaha G22

Adding More Light: LED Light Bars

If your cart already has a working light setup and you just want more reach on dark paths or country roads, an LED light bar is a simple add-on. We carry the GTW 4-inch Double Row LED Light Bar and the larger GTW 7.5-inch Double Row LED Light Bar.

Replacing Parts on Body Kit Carts

If your cart wears a Storm or Apex body kit and you only need to replace a damaged part, you don't need a whole kit:

A Quick Word on Road Rules

Lighting requirements for driving a golf cart on public roads vary by state, county and even community. In many places, a cart that is allowed on the road after dark needs working headlights, tail lights and brake lights, and often turn signals, reflectors and a rear-view mirror as well. Before you head out on roads at night, check with your local DMV or city or community rules so you know what your cart needs.

Before You Order

  • Match your cart's make, model and year range. Light kits are fitment-specific, and a Precedent kit won't fit a Drive2.
  • Check your body kit. Carts with aftermarket body kits often use different light kits than stock carts.
  • Know your voltage. Confirm the kit works with your cart's battery setup, especially if you've converted to lithium or added a voltage reducer.
  • Plan the install. Most owners with basic tools can do it themselves, but if you're unsure, a local golf cart shop can handle the wiring.
